Rust Dyed Art
RUST- a reddish- or yellowish-brown flaking coating of iron oxide that is formed on iron or steel by oxidation, especially in the presence of moisture.
My fascination with rust began during a walk in the Lake District. I was captivated by the everchanging colours and textures of the rust I found on benches and doors, as well as how they juxtaposed the nature of their surroundings.
All my works for this collection of art start with a simple rust stained fabric. Once the fabric has dried, I will experiment with different techniques to see how far I can push my ideas. The rust dyed fabrics have been either knitted, woven, distressed, layered or a combination of all. Some of the pieces also include hand and machine embellishment to add further depth.
