Art in Lockdown
“A lockdown is a requirement for people to stay where they are, usually due to specific risks to themselves or to others if they can move freely. The term “stay-at-home” or “shelter-in-place” is often used for lockdowns that affect an area, rather than specific locations.”
This body of work depicts my time in lockdown. When the government ordered the public to stay home and only leave the house for necessary purposes, they gave one exception to that rule and allowed us to leave the house for one form of exercise per day. I decided I wanted to create artwork inspired by my daily exercise.
Each day during lockdown I would look forward to leaving the house for my short walk or run. During this time, I would walk the same local path or run on the same route. I wanted to capture the repetition of this journey by creating artwork that echoed the patterns from the roads, pavements, paths, and local scenery. Having this daily focus helped me to stay motivated and positive during lockdown. For more details you can find my daily diary of artwork on Instagram (see blog tab)
